My name is Ismael. You can say (eez-my-él) or you can call me “Ish.” I’m from the San Francisco Bay Area. I am happily married, have an 11-year-old daughter, and we are expecting a baby girl in June, 2023! I grew up with three sisters. Together we spent our time singing, dancing, writing music, playing instruments, and we were all in marching band. I play the trombone, bass drum, guitar, and bass guitar. I used to be in a metal band, but now I play bass every Sunday in my church’s worship team. I love traditional football (you might call it soccer), traveling, and learning other languages. Besides English, I speak Spanish, German, and French.
I have a Bachelor’s in Chemical Engineering from San Jose State, a Master’s in Education and Applied Behavior Analysis from St. Edward’s, and I’m currently finishing up a Master of Business Administration from Eastern University. Within the next decade, I hope to become a physician. This will probably look like getting another Master’s degree (in Medical Health Science), and then at least four years of medical school.
Now, THAT is a lot of school for a kid who didn’t like doing homework!
I didn’t plan to go to college right away because it seemed like it would take forever. But then I realized that the time was going to pass anyway. I figured if I just focused on a little bit at a time, I would be one step closer. Before I knew it, I was a scientist!
I’ve worked with middle school, high school, and college-aged students for about 15 years. I like teaching every subject. My favorite part of being a teacher is meeting a student exactly where they are and helping them discover the truth about themselves; that they are fearfully and wonderfully made. I love helping people identify their strengths; how they can use their natural gifts to help them reach the next milestone, and how they can help others in the process, too!
